The Midland Daily News earned several awards with the 2021 Better Newspaper Contest held by the Michigan Press Association, which announced the awards on Thursday, March 17, 2022. Last week, the comic strip's creator, Scott Adams, made appalling and hateful public statements about Black Americans. In an online video, Adams made derogatory comments about Black Americans, calling them a hate group and urging 'white people … to get the hell away from Black people.
